X launches passkey support for iOS app users worldwide

Access keys for X uses were launched globally, providing a new level of account security to users of the social platform.

In January, X introduced support for password login. The feature uses technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with major technology players such as Apple, Google and Microsoft.

Passcodes on X were initially available exclusively to iOS users in the United States, but have now been rolled out globally, as confirmed by the official X security account.

Passcodes significantly reduce the risk of password breaches or hacking attempts. Passwords are encrypted and cannot be intercepted or stolen during transmission, providing strong protection for personal information.

How to enable passkeys in X

Passkeys, as part of the web authentication standard (WebAuthn), are supported on iOS devices starting with iOS 15. Here’s how to get started using passkeys in X.

1. Launch the X app on your iOS device.
2. Click on the profile icon in the upper left corner.
3. Go to “Settings & Support,” followed by “Settings & Privacy.”
4. Select “Security and account access.”
5. Opt for the “Security” setting.
6. Activate the Password option and verify by entering your existing password.

Access keys are available on many other platforms, applications and services.
